wirecutter has been rotating their top pick every 18 months to stay relevant, and casper's already had their moment. they're not a refresh story.
every mattress founder i've met talks about wirecutter like it's spotify
casper has been solid for years, and they don't cut corners on the foam like everyone else does.
casper has been coasting on 2015 nostalgia. wirecutter tests actual sleep science now, and that mattress doesn't crack the top three anymore.
wirecutter already rotated casper out of top slot twice in five years.
rotation cycles are brutal, but casper's still got enough retail gravity that wirecutter can't ignore them
rotation happens when you're not innovating faster than the category. casper's been coasting on the og positioning.
rotation history is real but they keep coming back to it. priced like it's a permanent fade and that's the edge.
casper isn't shipping innovation fast enough to hold editorial. that's the actual problem.
casper has the brand equity to cycle back in, but wirecutter's been rewarding newcomers with better foam tech lately
casper has been the same mattress for like eight years, and every runner i know switched to purple or helix
casper has the sensory story locked in a way the category forgot about. that's what wirecutter actually rewards.
casper has been the default answer for so long that wirecutter would have to actively work to pick something else
casper's everywhere but it's the safe pick, not the *feel* pick, and wirecutter's gonna chase whatever's actually innovating in 2026.
casper's margins never recovered from the DTC collapse. wirecutter's not picking a brand that can't sustain retail margins.
casper's been coasting on 2015 energy for like five years, wirecutter doesn't reward that anymore.
casper's been coasting on 2015 brand equity for a decade, and wirecutter rewards actual innovation, not nostalgia.
wirecutter's testing cycle moves slower than casper's innovation window. by 2026 they'll be reviewing mattresses that shipped in 2024.
casper's got the brand equity that editorial loves, but wirecutter's been burned by mattress capture before
casper's got the 3-year staying power wirecutter actually cares about. retail trust beats viral every time.
casper had the hero moment five years ago, now it's just another mattress in the lineup. wirecutter doesn't crown yesterday's news
casper's got the 3-year stability wirecutter actually cares about. they're not chasing new hype, they're picking the brand that ships consistent.
casper's got the brand equity but wirecutter rewards tested durability over nostalgia, and that's where the newer players are actually winning.
casper's already got the supply chain locked; that's the real moat here, not the product lol
casper's got the retail velocity and brand trust that wirecutter actually cares about, but i'm watching their q1 numbers
