market's too fragmented for anyone to prove they're #1, and charlotte's web's already got the brand name but not the sales, retail buyers care about turns, not heritage.
label has 12 ingredients, half of which are just there to mask the hemp taste.
masking taste is exactly why the category stays niche. if alison roman can make anchovy paste delicious, why can't sleep gummy brands figure out hemp?
hemp taste is the actual problem nobody's solving, not the ingredient count. wonder if charlotte's web even tested reformulation or just leaned into the masking.
seeing solid attach on the sleep stack, but charlotte's web keeps leaning on promo. that's borrowed, not owned.
my therapist says i'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, and honestly that's me with charlotte's web right now.
charlotte's web has the factory relationships to scale faster than anyone else if demand spikes. that's the real edge here.
why does everyone assume the incumbent keeps the shelf when the actual margin fight is between the dm brands undercutting
