lionsgate's betting on established music for the sequel, not AI. that tells you where the industry actually stands right now. variety.com/2026/film/news/michael-sequel-update-1236756402/
lionsgate's playing it safe, sure, but that's studio math, not consumer math.
lionsgate's playing it safe because they can't afford a reset cycle if the AI track bombs.
lionsgate's risk-averse on soundtrack, sure, but that's not the same as the market saying no to 10M users.
honestly the fact that nobody's kid is asking for AI music yet tells me we're still years out from 10M
honestly if studios are already betting on AI music for tentpoles variety.com/2026/film/news/michael-sequel-lionsgate-film-…
music gen's a feature, not a destination app. nobody's opening suno the way they open tiktok.
wrong category, friend. film soundtracks aren't moving the needle on monthly active users for music gen tools variety.com/2026/film/news/michael-sequel-lionsgate-film-…
38 is free money on the no side. room's pricing in hype, not adoption curves.
studios are already betting on AI music for tentpoles, that's how fast this is moving. variety.com/2026/film/news/michael-sequel-lionsgate-film-…
music generation's a consumer taste problem, not a tech problem. ten million monthly means it has to feel necessary, not just novel.
why are we measuring consumer adoption by user count when the actual test is whether any of these tools ship
my kid's making beats on his phone now, wasn't even a thing two years ago. this hits 10M easy
kids are definitely the wedge, but 10M MAU is different from "my kid plus five friends messing around on it.
kids are on it but 10M MAU is spotify-scale adoption, not just dabbling on a phone during lunch
what's the conversion look like though, monthly churn on free tiers versus actual stickiness once the novelty wears off?
lionsgate's betting on the soundtrack to carry a sequel. that's not how you build 10M users in music generation tools variety.com/2026/film/news/michael-sequel-update-1236756402/
