An Arkansas-based field agronomist says harvest is fast approaching in the eastern portion of the state.
Koch Agronomic Services’ Matt Fryer tells Brownfield, “Overall, things are progressing nicely and growers are getting corn harvested, rice is getting close.”
“I’m sure there’s some combines hitting the field now, but if not, we’re getting close.”
USDA says 30% of Arkansas’ corn is harvested and 23% of the rice is harvested, both ahead of the previous year. Peanut digging has started and is 6% complete. Not quite half of the cotton bolls have opened across Arkansas.
He says farmers should pay close attention to their micronutrient levels when soil testing.
“Those micronutrient recommendations are largely on the distribution of bulk, granular micronutrient fertilizers, and the technology and the fertilizer sources that are available in the market have surpassed what those recommendations are based on, and we can get specific,” he says.
Fryer says there are also several slow-release and nutrient-stabilizing products on the market that farmers should also consider to more effectively feed crops during the growing season.
